Why it matters
We don’t just take pride in the work we leave behind on jobsites. We should take pride in the future we leave behind in our union.
DC 11 becomes stronger, more united, and more representative when members step forward. However you choose to get involved, please know your voice matters here.
CORE Committees
-
CORE Committees are member-led groups that create space for connection, mentorship, and leadership development within DC 11. These committees reflect the diversity of our membership and ensure that members from different backgrounds and experiences have a real voice in shaping our union’s culture and future.
-
Committees include:
Women’s CORE
Latino CORE
Black CORE
LGBTQ2+ CORE
Retiree CORE
-
Meetings may be in person or virtual. How often the group meets and what it focuses on will be shaped by the members involved.
Volunteer Organizing Committee (VOC)
-
The Volunteer Organizing Committee (VOC) is open to any member who wants to take a more active role in growing and protecting our union.
The VOC is where members learn how our union works, how legislation impacts our trades, and how we organize effectively in our communities. It’s also a space to build confidence in public speaking, develop leadership skills, and connect with members across locals.
The VOC isn’t just about talking. It’s about preparing members to step into leadership, advocate for our trades, support one another, and strengthen DC 11 from the inside out.
Whether you’re brand new to the union or have years of experience, the VOC is a place to grow your knowledge, your voice, and your impact.
-
Throughout the year, VOC meetings include topics such as:
Union and IUPAT history
Community organizing and collaboration with CORE Committees
Understanding legislation and how bills become law
Know Your Rights sessions with guest speakers
Public speaking and member presentations
Peaceful protest and demonstration training
Mental health and well-being in today’s world
Legislative meet-and-greets
Open forums for ideas and member input
